The administration
and faculty of St. Rose Academy recognize that proper preparation for class and
homework are vital parts of the academic process. Parents and students should
understand that this work includes not only worksheets, math problems and unit
questions, but also projects, essays, studying reading, reviewing, journaling,
memorization, or other assignments. Each of these activities can be a catalyst
for student creativity and critical thinking. Homework improves students’
organizational skills, which will, in turn, enable them to be successful in
life.
The SRA Academic
Assistance Lab is held from 3:15 to 4:15
on Tuesdays and
Thursdays when necessary and dependent on teacher availability.
The Lab provides an academic atmosphere for students to complete homework
assignments, and receive faculty assistance and input. Any student may choose
to stay after school to use the Academic Assistance Lab provided they have prior
parental permission.
Students who are
negligent in completing homework will be assigned to the Academic Assistance Lab
in order to make up all missing work. Parents will be notified that the student
must report to the next scheduled Academic Assistance Lab to complete all
missing homework or remedial work assigned. Students must submit the completed
work to the teacher monitoring the Lab by the end of that period, or report to
the next lab in order to complete it. Teachers will give credit for work
completed.
When a student is
assigned to the Lab to complete missing work, attendance is mandatory, and takes
precedence over athletics, club meetings, and other extra-curricular
activities. Unexcused absences from the lab will result in a discipline
detention and a lab reassignment. Parents are responsible for arranging
transportation home from the lab; students should be picked up no later than
4:20
